During the setup process of your Market Leader system you were prompted to choose a domain name. If you chose a domain name, and did not use one that you already owned, then that means that Market Leader owns the domain name that you chose.

What if I want to own the domain that I chose?

If you decide that you want to take ownership of the domain that you chose during setup, we can easily do that. We can transfer ownership of the domain to you, so that you can use it wherever you would like, either with your Market Leader system or elsewhere.

On this page you’ll learn:

(info) Please note, ICANN regulations prohibit transferring domain names registered or transferred in the last 60 days. For more information, please click here.

Find Who the Domain Registrar Is

A domain registrar is the company that registered a domain that was purchased through them. Market Leader purchases domains from two registrars: GoDaddy and Wild West Domains.

To find out which registrar a domain was purchased through you’ll need to do a WHOIS search. This will show you who the owner of the domain and which registrar it was purchased through.

To do a WhoIs search, we’ll start by doing a WHOIS Lookup. You can simply click here to open the domain lookup page.

Enter the domain you want to check on in the WHOIS search bar and click Search.

On the search results page, you’ll see two sections. In either section you can look for a line that says Registrar. That is the domain registrar that Market Leader purchased the domain through.

Look for the lines that say Registrant Name and Registrant Organization. This will tell you who the current registered owner is for this domain.

Transfer a Domain Registered with GoDaddy

There are two methods to transferring a domain registered with GoDaddy. If you already have a GoDaddy account, then the process is slightly different if you do not have a GoDaddy account.

I already have a GoDaddy account

If you already have a GoDaddy account then we can do an account change, which is a pretty simple process. This will transfer ownership of the domain from Market Leader to your account.

Please email our domains department with the following information.

  • Subject line "Domain Transfer", followed by the domain name you want to transfer
  • Your first and last name
  • Your GoDaddy account number
  • The email address you have registered with GoDaddy

Our domains department will follow-up with instructions on how to complete this process.

I don’t have a GoDaddy account

If you do not have a GoDaddy account, you will need to have an account setup with a domain registrar.

You will then need to purchase a domain transfer from your domain registrar to initiate the domain transfer. You’ll need to refer to your registrars FAQ on how to transfer a domain.

Domain transfer tend to cost $7-10, though this is subject to your domain registrar policies

Transfer a Domain Registered with Wild West Domains

If the domain registrar is Wild West Domains, you will need to purchase a domain transfer so that we can transfer a domain to you. Domain transfers tend to cost $7-10, though this is subject to your domain registrar policies.

You will need to make sure that you have an account with a domain registrar, such as GoDaddy. You’ll need to refer to your registrars FAQ on how to transfer a domain.

(warning) Note: If you are prompted to enter an authorization code to start the domain transfer process, please email accountsetup@marketleader.com to request your authorization code (be sure to include your name and the domain name in your request).

You will receive a series of three emails from our domains department, which will provide you with instructions on how to complete the domain transfer process.

We will only transfer domains for your account. If the domain is attached to another agent's account, we will be unable to transfer ownership to you.

A subdomain is a domain that is part of a primary domain. For example, if you are a Keller Williams agent, you may have a domain name that is "yourname.kwrealty.com". The "yourname" part is the subdomain and the "kwrealty.com" is the primary domain.

No, only primary domains can be transferred.
